I would always recommend using Rydlyme Descaling Agent to stop the build up of lime scale. This is the number one cause of damage and shortend life of a clothes steamer.
Never overfill your steamer this will cause spitting of hot water on to your fabric.
Make sure that the head of the clothes steamer is smooth and clean the last thing you want it to snag an item or cause the steamer to puddle.
Look after the power cord. Untie knots and straighten kinks both can damage the cable over time.
