When we selected the Sanremo range we felt inspired with the vision of it in a florist or garden centre environment because of the beautiful natural wood and clean, elegant white frames.
Stats about the florist industry in the UK
In this report by Ibis World, some of the key insights they shared were:
‘The health of the florist industry was quickly revived by the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. The gradual recovery of the economy, with the gradual easing of restrictions on gatherings and non-essential retailing supported strong revenue growth over the two years through 2022-23.’
‘Market share concentration for the Florists industry in the UK is low, which means the top four companies generate less than 40% of industry revenue… The average concentration in the Retail Trade sector in the United Kingdom is 53%.’
‘There's an abundance of florists on most high streets… The Florists industry is saturated, with almost 12,400 florists serving local communities nationwide.’
Conclusions
One of the things this report makes clear is how much scope there is for a smaller retailer to join this market, but they must stand out.
As we discussed in our recent retail trends blog, another trend we can expect is customers on the high-street gravitating towards stores that provide an experience, or give them a sense of community, or inspiration, which sets it apart from simply shopping online.
With the highest revenue for florists coming from the more affluent areas of the UK that also comes with its own expectations for the aesthetic, style and tone a florist will need to follow in order to get people through the door.
