The Business Benefits of Buying in Bulk

When you’re running a business, you need to do everything you can to keep your costs down and your customers happy. Small margins can make all the difference when you’re competing with other businesses in a tight market.

If you have the financial means and enough storage space, bulk buying has several advantages that can give you the edge, so let’s take a look at a few of the benefits of bulk purchasing:

What the benefits of buying in bulk?

1. You’ll get best value

This is the first thing that most people will think about when considering the benefits of buying in bulk. After all, many of us follow the principle every time we do our supermarket shopping.

You’ll always get better terms from your supplier if you buy in bulk, and you can use those savings to either reduce the cost to your customer or make a bigger profit for your business.

2. You’ll save time

There are a lot of things to do when you’re running a business and anything you can do to create more time is always going to be a help. If you buy your supplies in one large order, it follows that it’s going to take less time than if you’re making several separate purchases.

And that principle also follows through to other jobs that will need to be done after you’ve placed your order, such as checking your orders in when they arrive, moving them to wherever you’ll be storing them and doing your accounts.

In fact, when you buy in bulk, everything you have to do with regard to that order, you only have to do once. If you make several smaller orders, you have to do everything that many times.

3. It’s more environmentally friendly

We have all become aware of the effects on the environment of transporting goods around the country. Buying in bulk means less journeys are required by whatever mode of transport is needed to make your delivery.

That means less greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere – and that can only be good news for the planet as we try to battle the effects of climate change.

4. You’ll be considered a better customer by your supplier

We’ve already mentioned how you’ll almost certainly get better terms from your supplier when you buy in bulk, but there may be a few other benefits that result from the relationship as well. If you’re seen as a bigger customer (and don’t forget that your suppliers will also be getting benefits out of you buying in bulk from them!), your supplier may be more willing to do that bit more for you when you need a favour.

That could mean prioritising your order when you need it processed extra fast, getting early notice of new products or deals, or just the general benefits that follow from having a good relationship with your supplier.

Having said all that, there are occasions when bulk buying won’t make sense – you don’t want things going out of date, or being stuck with things you can’t shift. Basically, though, if you’re confident you have customers ready to take stock off your hands, and you have the upfront resources and storage space to buy in bulk, then there’s no reason not to!

Here at Morplan, we use the benefits of buying in bulk to give our customers better prices – that’s just one of the reasons why we’re the retail supplier of choice for so many businesses across the country.
